What the numbers show
NEET rate: Share of youth not in employment, education or training (current ILO definition - ICLS19) is currently reported for 66 countries. The highest value is 51.03 in Zimbabwe; the lowest is 3.14 in Japan.
The median across all reporting countries is 11.57, and the mean is 14.47.
The gap between the highest and lowest reporting country is a factor of about 16.
Over the past decade 16 countries rose and 46 fell. The largest increase was in New Caledonia (up 109.0%), and the largest decrease in Mongolia (down 56.9%).

About this data

This series includes only countries for which the 19th ICLS definitions are applied. This indicator refers to the proportion of youth who are not in employment and not in education or training. Youth not in education are those who were neither enrolled in school nor in a formal training program (e.g. vocational training).
